  • Diversity and Inclusivity—Your Strategic Advantage - Impact Hub Boulder - 09/16/2014 - 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
    Starts: 6:00 PM
    Ends: September 16, 2014 - 7:30 PM
    Location: Impact Hub Boulder
Description: By the year 2043 the United States will have a “majority minority” population. In fact, ethnic and racial minorities already account for 50% of the under-5-year-old age group. Today, more than 47% of US workers are women (up from just 37% in 1970) and 70% of women with children under 18 now participate in the workforce.

Despite this, many companies still struggle with diversity. Women and minorities represent a very small portion of senior leadership roles—from Silicone Valley to Wall Street—and disparities in pay and advancement are well documented. There are many cases of clear business challenges, such the recent discussions about the lack of female representation in the video gaming industry, despite the fact that almost 50% of gamers are women.

At the same time, many of the more forward-looking and socially responsible entrepreneurs want to develop more diversity. There’s also significant research data on the fact that more diverse organizations are more innovative. A big problem is that many just don’t know how to achieve diversity.

This one-and-a-half hour workshop will look at diversity and inclusivity as a drive of innovation in the workplace and discuss how entrepreneurs can establish more diversity in their companies and use it as a strategic advantage

*This workshop will begin promptly at noon so please arrive a few minutes early to find a seat

    What you will learn

How diversity and inclusivity drive innovation and increased business value
The multiple dimensions of diversity, including gender, race/ethnicity, age, nationality, and many more
The difference between tolerance, diversity, and inclusivity
Tools for having productive conversations around diversity, and the pitfalls to avoid
Ways to foster a work environment that supports diversity and inclusivity

    Who should attend

Entrepreneurs who want to turn diversity into a strategic advantage
Entrepreneurs who want to develop more diverse work environments
Entrepreneurs and business leaders who want to increase business innovation
Anyone who is interested in diversity and inclusivity and who wants to make a positive change in the workplace.

Erin Beierwaltes partners with businesses to find the right balance of product, process and people, to create a responsive and adaptive learning organization.

She has been working on organizational development for over 10 years, working with established Product companies and startups, to adopt “just enough” formal approaches to support high paced growth and change. She believes strongly in addressing the combination of product discovery (figuring out what to build), process (how to set up processes to build high quality products quickly), and people (how to create a great culture) to reach organizational level agility.
