  • Your Org Chart Sucks: Organization Design for Startups and Social Ventures - Impact Hub Boulder - 10/07/2014 - 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
    Starts: 11:30 PM
    Ends: October 8, 2014 - 1:00 AM
    Location: Impact Hub Boulder
Description: Organization design can be a strategic advantage for startups and social ventures. Entrepreneurial ventures have three big imperatives: speed, impact, and sustainability. Their organization designs rarely serve any of these and more often work against them. Most org designs come from a consultant or a cocktail napkin, and neither knows your mission the way you do."Your Org Chart Sucks: Organization Design for Startups and Social Ventures" starts with the assumption that you have all the knowledge you need to design a high-performing organization. This interactive workshop builds on the key imperatives of the entrepreneurial business, emphasizing decision speed, measurable impact, and continuity through growth and turnover.

    You will learn how to:

    1. Design a high-performing organization in a day or less;2. Determine which structures are best for specific types of organizations; and3. Align roles, processes, governance, & operating model to org structure.

"Joseph Logan is world-class at creating the space for bold visions to emerge, and then using his insight, experience and strong presence to support the move from vision to action. It’s a powerful combination for upping your game and making an impact on the world. I especially appreciate the way he used insightful questions and exacting accountability to support me rapidly making the changes I wanted in my business life.”
~Tim Peek, Coach and Emmy Award-Winning Producer

Agenda: Josephs style is highly interactive. He believes that experiential learning has a stronger impact and retention than pure lecture. This session will include a tiny bit of lecture/presentation, a larger portion of audience interaction, 2-3 activities/exercises, and a Q&A portion.

What is org design and why should I care?
Why org design is different for startups and social ventures
Where most org design efforts go wrong
Why to do the org chart last (priorities in a solid org design)
How to design your organization in a day or less
Why org design is a strategic advantage for the small organization

Our authenticity, integrity, and courage are routinely on the line.   Whether you have a formal title or are functioning as an informal leader, how we respond to setbacks and difficulties shapes who we are and impacts our credibility and the effectiveness of our organizations.   Volatile markets, demanding investors, dissatisfied employees and dysfunctional teams are just some of the situations that arise as we try to accomplish our goals.   How do we typically respond in these moments of challenge and what other options might be possible?  What does authenticity look like when times are tough?
In this interactive, participatory experience (not another panel of 'experts'), we will come together as peers, and share how we relate to difficult challenges day after day.  We will learn about successes and struggles and explore the practices and tools that help us increase our capacity to respond rather than react, and ultimately become better leaders.
    Who Should Attend:

    Innovators in conscious businesses
Anyone who is struggling with how to manage a responsible business
    Organizational development consultants and advisors

Description: We’ve brought you a company-wide team with real-life experience working with the financial structure of Open Management to bootstrap their own business. The goal of this workshop is to guide you through the creation of your own easy-to-understand business management and KPI (key performance indicator) tracking structure.

This 1.5 hour workshop is the third and final session in a 3 part series which will cover drafting and planning a reporting system to begin utilizing on a weekly basis. We will answer individual questions that pertain specifically to your business niche to ensure that your reporting reflects the best key performance indicators to track your growth. We will cover anything from “Trying Your Key Performance Indicators On For Size” and “Planning Your First Huddle” to “Committing to and Enrolling Your Staff in Regular Weekly Reporting Reviews”. This will include detailed steps, best practices, real-life examples, and recommended resources.

The team will share their experiences, outline a specific action plan, and provide real resources for you to tailor for your own needs. In addition, it is an opportunity for you to meet other entrepreneurs, get answers, present your own ideas, and work on your own Open Book Management business structure with the team.

Our team includes the CEO of local company StickerGiant and staff members that implement this program on a daily basis. Additionally, they represent a company that has experienced improved profitability after recent number tracking restructuring and regularly contributes in-kind donations for Startups, Entrepreneurial driven event functions, VC networks, and more.

You will have the opportunity to work on and share your own financial strategy to get feedback from the team and the group. This workshop is ideal for people who are ready to create or have started to create their own trackable financial structure.
